Steel Construction Winers 2008

Summary:
The past two Steel Awards celebrations had historical themes. In 2006 we looked back over 25 years of Steel Awards and last year the evening’s theme at Gallagher Estate in Midrand was medieval – all knights and cloaks and daggers. This year we are venturing into the future – Steel Awards with a touch of Star Wars! That made me think – the Institute is involved in marketing a product that was developed more than a thousand years BC and steel will still be there when we do the ‘star wars’ thing. Can you imagine a future cityscape without steel skyscrapers?
This is not a fly by night product – a new must-have ‘squidgy’ for your kitchen – but it does not make marketing structural steel any easier.Steel has fierce competitors in the construction industry and high steel prices and shortages can do the image of our product harm, if not managed positively. There are always noise, traffic and static in the fast paced world of commerce – so how do we get through with our message? We speak one
language – we speak fluent steel. Steel Awards is the gathering place for steel speaking people – not only on the night of the event, but long before, when project teams proudly nominate their projects, when sponsors give their support, when companies book tables and invite important clients to the dinner. They all speak steel enthusiastically and passionately. This issue is the heaviest Steel Construction Awards issue to date – and only possible thanks to another group of steel speaking people – our advertisers! Enjoy!
