Analytical Models of Instrumented Moment Frame Steel Buildings in Opensees

Summary:
This report describes the details of instrumented moment frame steel buildings selected for statistical evaluation of primary structural response parameters (including peak and residual roof and interstory drift ratios, external and internal components’ plastic chord rotations and finally the floor accelerations) obtained through compressive NTH analyses conducted in the context of ground motion time-series selection and scaling project.
In the following, details of three buildings and description about their computer models are provided, the buildings included are:
o 6-Story Steel Moment Frame Building
o 13-Story Steel Moment Frame Building
o 19-Story Steel Moment Frame Building (will be added to the report in the near future)
2. 6-Story Steel Moment Frame Building
2.1 Building Details
This building (shown in Fig 2.1) is a 6-story steel structure designed in 1976 as per the 1973 UBC requirements and is located in Burbank, California. The rectangular plan of the building measures 120 feet by 120 feet (36.6 x 36.6 m) with a 3 ¼ in. (8.3 cm) thick light weight concrete
(110 lb /ft3) slab over 3 in. (7.6 cm) metal decking. Shear studs between the slab and beams were provided on the interior beams in the North-South direction only. The primary lateral load resisting system is a moment frame around the perimeter of the building. The structural system is essentially symmetrical. Moment continuity of each of the perimeter frames is interrupted at
the ends where a simple shear connection is used to connect to the weak column axis.
